Press Release: Ématelier has entered the market of luxury watches, launching its inaugural Harmony Collection in January 2017

The collection features limited edition automatic watches with enamel dials

Toronto, CANADA: By Hand and Fire. Ématelier is one of the only companies in the world specializing in state-of-the-art mechanical watches with handcrafted enamel dials.

Based in Toronto, Canada, Ématelier is a new company dedicated to preserving the ancient art of enamelling. Timepieces rely on rare enamelling techniques, which lie at the juncture of science and fine art, refined and adapted for the 21st century. Expert artisans bring natural and vibrant imagery to life through miniature enamel painting. The enamel miniature is handpainted under a microscope in 10–12 layers and fired in a kiln at 750°C to 800°C between each layer — a temperamental process, even for a highly skilled enameler. The dials then employ the Geneva technique, widely regarded as one the most difficult and sought after techniques in the watchmaking world. Each dial is coated in three layers of clear enamel, enhancing the vividness of its hues and giving a perfectly smooth finish. The results of this technique are uniquely durable, immune to the effects of light, moisture, and time. Ématelier timepieces are miniature works of art wrought in enamel. They will stay as beautiful as the day they were created for generations to come.

“Since working as a young apprentice in a watch shop over 40 years ago, watches have not left my mind. My life-long passion has now come to life, in the form of creating one-of akind works of art I am proud to represent.”

— Alex Landa, Founder

Designed specifically for women, the Harmony collection features ten hand-painted, botanically accurate floral designs. Widely treasured and symbolic flowers like daisies, blue bells, poppies, and forget-me-nots are pictured against vivid natural landscapes. Due to the difficulty and precision involved in creating a single perfect edition, the collection is only available in an exclusively limited production of ten editions per design. Handmade alligator straps of the highest quality round out the collection, available in a variety of hues specially chosen to complement the colours in the miniature paintings. Bezels can also be encrusted with 74 highest quality diamonds, with a total weight of approximately 0.90 Cts.

About Us

Alex Landa, founder of Ématelier, was first bewitched by watches in the 1970s as a young apprentice in a shop specialized in the repair and restoration of unique timepieces. In the years that followed, as his career turned towards other pursuits, his love for watches only grew. For decades, Alex followed the industry closely and gathered a stunning personal collection, perfecting the art of watch repair and maintenance along the way. Five years ago, equipped with a lifetime of knowledge, he resolved to make a venture of his greatest passion — the manufacturing of watches with enamel dials. This involved traveling around the globe, learning the secrets of the trade from master enamelers, of which there are only a handful. The result is Ématelier — a genuine labour of love.
